WHO WE ARE
When the world went quiet, we refused to.
The Masked Theatre began in lockdown, when two people with day jobs and a stubborn love for live performance watched stages go dark. Work vanished. Rehearsal rooms fell silent. So we improvised: we turned living rooms into little theatres and kept the stories going online with local actors and producers.
From the couch, for a fraction of the usual ticket price, people could still watch theatre at home and be entertained by laughter, sadness and drama—proof that connection doesn’t need a grand foyer to matter.
When the doors reopened, the message was loud and clear: people wanted to dress up, find their seat, and feel that shared hush before the first line. We listened. We rebuilt The Masked Theatre for that feeling. Today we’re a home for South African storytelling: a place where you can discover shows, support artists, and keep the experience alive with E-Books, Audio Stories and artist-driven products.
This isn’t just another ticket system. It’s a way to keep the lights on—in venues, in communities, and in people.
What we believe
Theatre is a conversation. It’s a room we make together—performers, crew and audience—and everyone matters.
Access matters. Stories shouldn’t be locked behind price, jargon or admin. Buying a ticket should be as easy as finding a seat.
Local voices first. South African work deserves full houses and fair processes. We’ll always make space for new voices alongside favourites.
Care, not chaos. The practical bits—tickets, queues, scanning—should be invisible so the art can breathe.
What you’ll find here
Shows to experience in person. Clear listings, honest details and QR tickets that just work.
Stories that travel home with you. E-Books and Audio Stories to keep the curtain up long after the night ends.
Ways to support the people who make it. Official products linked to the theatre and our artists—small purchases that keep big dreams going.
A note to organisers & agents
We built the rails so you can focus on the work. Register, list your event and use our tools to run the night— including ticket scanning at the door, or optional box-office support if you need hands on deck. Your words and images are yours—and your responsibility. We back you with fair policies and clear, transparent processes.
What keeps us going
It’s the murmur in the foyer. The phone on silent. The laugh you didn’t expect. The heavy pause after a line that lands too close to home. The lights, the breath, the brave bit in the middle where a stranger on stage and a stranger in row G meet in the same story and remember they’re not alone.
That’s why The Masked Theatre exists—not for clicks or carts, but for that moment.
