Monologues for Primary & Highschool Learners

This is a simple, practical working script.

It is set in such a way that it is user-friendly and easy to read.

Recently I had to adjudicate a series of eisteddfods. I was taken aback by the lack of modern, original and playable material available for Afrikaans and English learners.

These monologues are suitable for classwork, drama exams and eisteddfods. I am not categorizing the difficulty level of the works, because each learner is different, and some are more advanced at a younger age than others. These monologues are also suitable for use by Afrikaans Second Language learners. With outdated gender-based norms and interests, most of these monologues are suitable for male or female learners.

The onus lies with the Drama teacher and individual learner to decide what suits them. It is always better for a learner to choose material that speaks to them. It is, of course, encouraged for learners to choose material that challenges them. And do not underestimate talented, intelligent learner’s abilities.
